Sweet Girl

Emma does not like to keep her feet tucked in her little nest. Everything the nurses put her feet in there, she kicks them back out. She was very active yesterday and she tries to wiggle until she can get onto her side.
Yesterday was my first day to be by myself with our sweet girl. It was nice to just sit in peace and quiet with her. They are continuing to increase her feedings and she is now getting 10 cc every three hours. They were able to identify her bacteria which is causing the chest infection and they tailored the antibiotics to knock it out. The doctors think her chest X-Ray was looking a little more clear, but the infection is not completely gone.

They started her on a mist to help with the mucous secretions in her lungs and were able to loosen up the mucous and suction is out. She seemed to really like it to help with her breathing. Emma is still on the ventilator, but they are continue to lower the rate to prepare her to come off if this week.

All of her vitals are still good as far as blood pressure, temperature and she is continuing to have poopy and wet diapers. She weighs 1 lb 6 oz, so she is almost back to her birth weight! PRAISE the LORD!!

God is continues to answer our prayers with our sweet girl. When I feel like I am overwhelmed, I continue to feel his peace shroud me and keep me calm and let me know everything is going to be okay. We are so blessed and continued to be amazed by our sweet Emma Claire.

They are also going to repeat her head ultrasound as a follow up today, and we continue to believe it will be clear.Continue to pray for her weight gain, infection to be cleared up as well as her ability to be off the ventilator this week.

  1. She looks deceptively big in these pictures. What a blessing she is! You should try and get a pic next to a beanie baby, or with Matt's wedding ring on her arm for perspective. The camera magnifies her size, but I know how tiny she really is. Praise the Lord for her progress! We will be praying for her every step of the way! Call me if you ever want to talk! I've been down this road before, and, praise God, made it to the other side! He is faithful!!! Love you guys! I love the blog and being able to see her!

  2. Woo-hoo!! So glad lil' Emma is almost back to her birth weight, and her feedings are increasing too! Gotta get those 3+ pounds on her so she can go home!!

Great suggestion from Melissa re: perspective of Emma's size. Someone else (who has the Warren family on their prayer list!) added the idea of placing a one dollar bill next to her, since we all know the size of that. Sure, nice idea and all, but how 'bout $20 instead?? (I would have said a $100 bill, but I need to see something I might actually see from time to time - ha!)

I pray Emma continues to gain weight and that they are able to slowly wean her ventilator settings! Everything is baby steps but you will get through this and have a beautiful baby girl at home with you soon. You may not know me but if ever I could do anything for you and your family please let me know! I look forward to watching Emma's story.. Stay strong through all the storm...~Tarrah

  4. Dear Warren Family,
I have heard of your darling little girl from your neighbor, the nurse at my school. I just want you to know that my prayers are with you and your family. I have lived through the path you are now walking on. I am the mother of a precious angel who weighed 1 pound 10 ounces when she arrived at 27 weeks. I have spent the same hours waiting by the side of an isolete. The doctors and nurses at your hospital are wonderful. I am happy to share with you that my angel will turn 10 years old this Saturday. It is amazing what God can do! Stay strong and lean on each other. There are lots of ups and downs on this journey, but God will carry you through!

  5. HI Emily,

I'm a friend of Judith K who told me your story. What a beautiful, healthy daughter you have there! I will definitely keep her in my prayers and have added her name to my GodBox,

My daughter was born not breathing and had to spend a short time in NICU and I remember feeling so helpless. I am a big believer in power of prayer, good thoughts, and positive energy, so I love that you started a blog for her so we can all send our prayers and good wishes as she begins her life here! I've linked your blog to my blog so others can also continue to keep her in their prayers and thoughts.

Oh and my daughter turns 9 1/2 in February and completely healthy.

All the best to you and your family and of course, Emma Claire!

  9. Hi Emily,
I am praying for your family and your little precious baby girl. I wanted to encourage you that my little niece was born at 28 weeks gestation; she is now a perfectly sassy, perfectly "normal" four year old that drives her mom crazy. :-) God is in control and hears our prayers.

    With Love,
